Sarracenia alata

To my shame I really don't know very much about this plant apart from the fact that it is not a hybrid. I believe there are only eight species of Sarracenia.

In about the 3rd week of March as the flower heads are just showing through. I take a good look at the plants and cut back any dead growth.

About a week later you can see the flower heads about 3cm tall

Only a few weeks later and flower heads have grown to about 30cm.

Here you can see that the flower buds are all bowing their heads, it won't be too long before they open.

In full bloom. The flowers are scented and smell like sweet lemon. Also about now the new leaves start to grow, they are red in colour.
