Sarracenia purpurea

This plant is Sarracenia purpurea var. purpurea. I think that there are several varieties of this one. This is a northern variety, it can be found between New Jersey USA and Labrador Canada. The leaves grow between 10cm - 20cm, the flower stalk grows between 30cm - 40cm tall. It likes half shade or full sun and high humidity. It can withstand frost and high temperatures.

09/04/2000 Here you can see the flower stems, they are about 10cm tall.		01/05/2000 The now bowed flowers buds are about 25cm tall and should open soon.
08/05/2000 the flowers are fully open now and new leaves have started to grow.		08/05/2000 Here is a close up of a flower.
01/06/2000 As the flowers start to die the plant grows a new set of pit fall traps.
